Burst Disc or O-ring leak

·        You will need to determine if the water is streaming through the center of the burst disc indicating that that part (plus an o-ring) needs to be replaced.  If the water is spraying around the outer edge of that part then only the o-ring needs to be replaced.  The customer can easily replace these parts.  If your machine is under warranty the cost of the parts is covered by your warranty.  If your machine is out of warranty then the cost of the part is very inexpensive.

·        How to fix the problem

After determining what part needs to be replaced order it from us by sending us an email or calling us on the phone.  We can deliver the part with your next order or we can send it to you through the mail for a small postage and handling cost.  Once you get the part follow the instructions below for replacing the part.

o       Procedure for replacing the burst disc and o-ring

1.            Make sure that the water chamber is empty of water.

2.            Unscrew the burst disk from your machine by turning it counter clockwise.  You may need to use something flat like the backside of a table knife or as a last resort use a pair of pliers to do this.

3.            Remove the burst disk and o-ring from your machine by pulling it out of your water chamber.  Throw both items away.

4.            Slip the new o-ring onto the burst disk.

5.            Insert the burst disk; with the o-ring on it, into the hole where the old burst disk and o-ring were removed from.

6.            With your fingers, turn the burst disk clockwise until it is lightly finger tight.

7.            Put water into you machine. Point the burst disk toward a sink and away from any person’s body and carbonate the water.  Watch to see if water leaks around the burst disk.  If it does not, you are done.  If there is any water leaking out, do not release any water from the machine.  Now slowly tighten the burst disk just until the water stops leaking being careful not to over tighten.

8.            Press the carbonating lever once more with water in your machine (this is one extra press to provide extra carbonation) to put extra pressure in your water chamber.  Check again to make sure the burst disk is not leaking.  If it is continue to tighten it slowly just to the point that it stops leaking.

9.            In 1 week the o-ring will have seated itself and the burst disc may be leaking a little bit.  If this happens repeat steps 7 & 8.

o       Procedure for only replacing the o-ring

Take the o-ring off of the burst disc.

4.   If you have some white Teflon plumbers tape wrap the threads on the burst disc with the tape.

5.   Slip the new o-ring onto the burst disk.

6.  Insert the burst disk; with the o-ring on it, into the hole where the old burst disk and o-ring were removed from.

7.  With your fingers, turn the burst disk clockwise until it is lightly finger tight.

8.      Put water into your machine.

9.      Press the carbonating lever once more with water in your machine to put extra pressure in your water chamber.  Check again to make sure the burst disk is not leaking.  If it is continue to tighten it slowly just to the point that it stops leaking.

10.    In 1 week the o-ring will have seated itself and the burst disc may be leaking a little bit.  If this happens repeat steps 8 & 9.

·        What caused the problem

If one of these parts is leaking it is doing exactly what it is designed to do so worse damage is not caused to your machine from the cause of the problem.  The problem is a symptom of some other problem and it is a good idea to identify and correct the problem so additional problems don’t arise.  To follow are the causes (and solutions) of this part leaking, it may be just one of these things or a combination of these things:

1.  Someone at sometime has poured something besides water into the machine.

Solution:  Soak the top of your machine in a solution of warm water and bleach (not hot water) for 1 hour.  Use no more than ½ ounce of bleach per gallon of water.  After soaking immediately carbonate 10 to 12 cycles of water through your machine and hopefully this will kill any and all bacteria growing in your machine as well as clean it out.  But this does not always work if the damage done to your machine from pouring something besides water into the machine is real bad and if it does not it will need servicing by us.

2.  When making a drink someone is not always using refrigerated cold water and is just taking water straight from the faucet.

Solution:  As the instructions for the machine teach, only use refrigerated cold water.

3.  When carbonating the proper technique calls for you to push the button two or more times and someone is only pushing it down once.

Solution:  Go to our website and review the instructions for proper carbonation or call us to get help.

4.   When carbonating you are not to hold the button down the first time you push it down.  You are only to push it down, pause and let go and someone is holding it down on the first push.

Solution:  Go to our website and review the instructions for proper carbonation or call us to get help.

5.   When carbonating someone is holding the carbonating button down past the point where the machine makes the sound telling you to let go.

Solution:  Go to our website and review the instructions for proper carbonation or call us to get help.

6.  The machine has not been back flushed regularly every 6 months.

Solution:  Go to our website for back flush instructions.  Back flush 1 time for each time it has not been done.  Sign up on our website for our newsletter where we send out a reminder to back flush the machines every 6 months.

7.  The machine is not giving you enough carbonation so someone is pushing the carbonating button down extra long.

Solution:  Back flush your machine.  Read in the instructions how to properly make atomic or extra carbonated drinks without damaging your machine or call us for help.

8.      You replaced this part before and it seemed simple enough to go ahead and just replace it without reading the instructions and you did not replace it properly as a result.

Solution:  Replace the part again but this time first read in the instructions for replacing the part and precisely follow the instructions when replacing the part.

9.      If you have had your machine for over 5 years then it could well be a sign that some parts on your machine are wearing out.  These machines when used properly can go as long as 10 years without trouble but not always are the machines used properly by everyone using the machine so seals, gaskets, springs and things that make your machine work can wear early.

Solution:  It may be time to rebuild your machine, which is very inexpensive to do.  To discuss this with us just call or send us an email.

10.    If it is none of the above your machine may be defective.

Solution:  Call us.

·        What can be done in the future to make sure the problem does not happen again

Determine what was is the cause of the problem (or there may be more than one cause) and follow the solution offered above.
